Download Press KitSinger Songwriter Ainsley Friesen has been performing and touring throughout the Prairies and other parts of Canada for over twenty years; primarily as a solo musician but also collaborating with other artists along the way. Lessons learned from life’s victories and defeats have infused her writing with a confidence and beauty that grow richer with time. Her unique musical style harmonized with authentic lyrics creates a sound that is as compelling as the artist herself.
Ainsley was born and raised in Brandon, Manitoba. Her album debut in 1998, “Scattered...Inspired”, did not earn the musical recognition she sought, but Ainsley’s views on success have evolved with time and personal growth. Over the years she has released EP’s, and recorded multiple collections of unreleased songs. She moved to Halifax to study at the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art in 2006, and returned to school a decade later (2016) to study Voice and Composition at the Brandon University School of Music.
Her studies have led her to opportunities to work in a Music Therapy setting at the Brandon Regional Health Centre and several personal care homes in Brandon, through Artists in Healthcare Manitoba. These experiences have been integral to her growth not only as an artist but also as a human being- music as a way to connect with someone, and a powerful tool for comfort.
Ainsley has been teaching private music lessons for 8 years, primarily in Manitoba and most recently since September of 2021 in Saskatchewan. She offers lessons in piano, voice, guitar, ukulele and songwriting at Singer Songwriter Studios, her business located in Whitewood. Ainsley is versed in teaching RCM beginner and intermediate piano levels. As well as classical music, she is able to introduce students to popular music styles and aspects of improvisation, chord techniques and chord theory. Ainsley has excellent rapport with her local and virtual students, and is an engaging and enthusiastic musical role model.
